A cross-sectional study of approved scope of practice, everyday work
practices and future aspirations of oral health therapists in Singapore
Oral health therapists (OHTs) function as members of a multidisciplinary team to deliver oral healthcare. In
Singapore, there are three categories of OHTs, namely Dental Hygienists (DH), Dental Therapists (DT) and dual-qualified Dental
Hygienist/Dental Therapists (DH/DT). Each category of OHT is restricted to a work scope, defined by the Singapore Dental
Council (SDC). There was no existing literature on what OHTs in Singapore actually do, their level of job satisfaction, or their
aspirations for their profession.
